Cut The Gutter

If the section of the gutter you are discarding is on your left use the right hand tin snips and vice versa if the discarded section is on right.

Cut the gutter.

Cut along the marked line you placed on the aluminum gutter starting at the flange turning inward toward the opening of the aluminum gutter. Use the old adage measure twice and cut once then turn the gutter upside down on the table and mark it all the way around. Work slowly so that you can maintain a straight cut and limit the crinkling of metal. Use a carpenter s square to get around to the bottom.

Start cutting on an outer flange edge with the pattern shears. Cut a two inch long notch in the front lip of the gutter with tin snips to join a rain gutter section with an inside or outside corner piece. Cut along the pencil cut line with a pair of aviation snips. Cut until you reach the bottom of the gutter.

Tear the paper backing off the tape and lightly adhere one edge of the tape to the top of the gutter. Work wrinkles and bubbles flat. Laying your gutter on the workbench measure off the amount of gutter you want to cut and mark it with a pencil. Cut the tape with a scissors or a razor knife photo 2.

Proceed to cut down along the side of the aluminum gutter repeat the process to cut down along the other side of the aluminum gutter. Turn the gutter section over so that you can hold it by one side. Roll the tape down the wall of the gutter pushing it firmly into curves and corners photo 3.
